Veteran Ghanaian singer, Mzbel, has recounted how the late former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings once embarrassed her in public, calling it the most humiliating moment of her life.

Speaking in an interview with media personality, Emmanuel Agyemang, the “16 Years” hitmaker recounted how she was snubbed by the late First Lady at a public event years ago.

According to Mzbel, the incident happened during the birthday celebration of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings at the National Theatre.

She recalled being filled with excitement at the opportunity to meet the former president and take pictures with him.

However, she said her enthusiasm turned into humiliation when Nana Konadu pushed her aside in front of others.

“It was JJ Rawlings’ birthday and we were all invited. I was excited when I saw JJ Rawlings and decided to hug and take pictures with him. When I got there, Nana Konadu pushed me aside. This was at the National Theatre. That was the biggest embarrassment of my life,” Mzbel recalled.

She went on to explain that she was later informed the late First Lady was upset with her over comments she had made years earlier during the 2016 general election campaign.

Mzbel mentioned that at the time, she was politically inexperienced and had made “reckless” remarks while campaigning for John Dramani Mahama in 2016.

“She did something that really pained me. I don’t know what I did, but during the 2016 election campaign, I was reckless. I didn’t know anything about politics, so I was talking anyhow, and I think she didn’t like it. She was annoyed with me,” she said.

The former First Lady, Founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, passed away on October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, aged 76.

According to Oheneba Akwasi Abeyie, head of her family, and Akomfuohene of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Nana Konadu was rushed to the hospital after falling ill in the morning but passed away later that day.

She had attended the funeral service of Lucy Abena Konadu Effah at Christ the King Church just a day before her death.

Following her passing, President John Dramani Mahama declared three days of national mourning.
