Ghanaian musician Grumah Naomi Manshinna, popularly known as Shinna, says her upcoming music project is inspired by personal growth, cultural identity and the storytelling approach of artistes such as Black Sherif.

Speaking about the project, Shinna said the body of work represents a more deliberate phase of her career and is aimed at connecting with a wider audience.

“This project shows how much I have grown, both personally and musically. I want people to hear where I am coming from and where I am going,” she said.

She said Black Sherif’s ability to remain authentic while achieving mainstream success has influenced her creative direction.

“Black Sherif’s storytelling really inspires me. He stays true to his background, and that is something I also want to do with my music,” she added.

Shinna said she writes her own songs, drawing from lived experiences and her Northern Ghanaian roots.

“My songs are my stories. I write from what I have lived and what I see around me,” she said.

The musician, who is from Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi Municipality, said she continues to balance her music career with her profession as a trained nurse.

She did not disclose a release date for the project but said her focus is on delivering music that is authentic and reflective of her identity.
