Embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has claimed that his current predicament in the ongoing investigations involving him and his company, Akonta Mining Limited, stems from fear within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to Chairman Wontumi, the NDC’s fear of his political aspirations is driving them to harass him and his business interests ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Wontumi suggested that the NDC has become envious of his ambition to contest for the position.

“My National Chairmanship ambition has put fear in the NDC, so they have targeted me,” Wontumi TV quoted him as saying during an interview on April 23, 2025.

The government has revoked Akonta Mining’s license due to alleged breaches, as stated by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

Furthermore, all bank accounts and financial records related to Akonta Mining have been frozen by the Financial Intelligence Centre as part of ongoing investigations.
