Ghanaian international model, Rodney Osei, has shared the challenges he faced at the beginning of his career.
In an interview with GhanaWeb‘s Joseph Henry Mensah on June 29, 2025, Rodney Osei noted that his father was not in support of his decision to become a model.
Rodney, who modelled at the just-ended 2025 Paris Fashion Week, explained that his father wanted him to venture into white collar jobs after graduating from the University of Ghana.
“My dad wasn’t open to it from the first time I started. But my mom was in support of it. If both parents weren’t in support of it, I probably wouldn’t have probably done it.
“The fact that I had support from one parent pushed me to do it. My dad is a traditional man and also in the military, so he was a bit difficult… But since I am taking care of myself and I am not dependent on him anymore, I am okay,” he said.
Opening up on his modelling journey, Rodney Osei noted that he never dreamt of becoming a model.
According to him, “I didn’t have plans of modelling. I was in school one time, and I went out with my friends. We went to the mall, and a scout for my agency approached me. He was persistent in getting my number. So I gave him my number, and he texted me, asking me to send him my pictures. And it started from there,” he said.
Rodney Osei said although he stumbled into modelling by chance, he would still choose the same path if given another life.
“I wouldn’t want to leave my life anywhere else… of course, I have gone to places that I always said I would never go, and it has opened ways for me, so I will go for it,” he added.
