D-Black has dispelled claims that he grew up with a silver spoon, insisting his path was far from privileged.

Responding to a rumour on X about his background, the Black Avenue Muzik boss revealed a defining loss in his early life: his father’s death when he was just 12. That tragedy, he said, left his mother to shoulder the responsibility of raising the family alone, a struggle that shaped both his character and ambition.

“Town make hard oo. Or ebe me? Chale,” D-Black posted, sparking claims from one follower that he was a “dbee”, a term for a wealthy man’s child. The rapper quickly pushed back, sharing a glimpse of his past.

“My popee lef we den I chop 12, e lef the world inside too den Vera sef no drop. So don’t talk what u uno know. Momee grind heavy watch we. Gods grace wey see we,” he wrote, crediting his mother’s resilience and faith for his eventual success.

He stressed that his present fame should not be mistaken for evidence of privilege, urging people not to judge his roots based on what they see today.

D-Black has also been outspoken on industry reform. In October 2024, he declared that if appointed Tourism Minister, he would dissolve the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), and the Copyright Society of Ghana (COSGA), arguing the institutions have strayed from their core mandate and require a complete reset.
