Kwasi Appiah is the head coach of Sudan

The head coach of the Sudanese national team, James Kwasi Appiah, has said that his aim is to churn out positive results that will influence the restoration of peace and order to the country.

He indicated that he wants to qualify Sudan for the 2026 World Cup and, through that, unite the people for the war to cease.

The former Black Stars coach disclosed that when Sudan qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the delight made the people stop fighting; however, it returned after some weeks.

Speaking on the BKB Show, Appiah bemoaned the instability in Sudan and his objective to contribute to its resolution.

“My ambition now is to qualify the team for the World Cup and through that, the people will stop the war. Recently, when we qualified for the AFCON, for one week people were moving around in town and were happy. But unfortunately, after some time, they returned.

“So, I am looking at the situation where the qualification will bring joy to the residents for the war to cease, and that will be my happiest day,” he told Bright Kankam Boadu.

Kwasi Appiah qualified war-torn Sudan to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco at the expense of Ghana.

Sudan are also leading their group in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with the rest of the matches to be played in March 2025.
