Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh

Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh has responded to rumours claiming that he has been feigning a Western accent.

In an interview on Joy Prime on November 27, 2024, the seasoned actor explained that the accent some people are calling “fake” is actually a reflection of his professional journey and his efforts to represent Ghana on the global stage.

“What they’re calling a fake accent is actually my way of representing Ghana to the world. When we were kids, our teachers would punish us for not speaking English clearly. And once you open your mouth, you tell the world who you are.

“So, it’s not a bad thing to speak like an American or a Brit. In my case, as a Ghanaian working in Hollywood, I had to adapt. Sometimes it’s difficult, but I have to push myself to get it right,” he stated.

Chris Attoh encouraged Ghanaians to embrace learning multiple accents, rather than sticking solely to the one they’re most comfortable with.

“It may be hard at first, but you’ll adapt over time. So my accent is not fake, learn it, because it will be helpful to you.”

Chris Attoh is a well-known Ghanaian-Hollywood actor who has appeared in several films, including Happiness Is a Four-Letter Word, 6 Hours to Christmas, and many others.

He has also earned notable nominations, including ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ at the 2018 Africa Movie Academy Awards and ‘Best Actor’ at the 2016 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
