Abena Ruthy, the second vice president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has made it clear the union is not entitled to help Kwadee.

During a conversation on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Abena Ruthy emphasized that not all artists in the nation are automatically members of the union. She disclosed that hip-hop star Okomfour Kwadee is not even a member of MUSIGA.

She clarified that although the union has previously backed Kwadee and is prepared to do so once more for humanitarian reasons, they are under no duty to offer help.

“There was a conversation about Kwadee recently, and he is not even a member now, but our president urged us to help him. So, that is what we are doing. We are a family. We are not obliged to help, but we are trying to look out for him as much as we can,” she said.

The union only helps members who are in good standing, Abena Ruthy continued.

“There is a narrative out there that as long as you sing, everyone thinks you are part of us. But we have members in good standing. As it stands now, he is not a member in good standing,” she explained.

She also encouraged the nation’s artists to join MUSIGA so they can get help when they need it.

“If something good is happening, you should sign on because it is important. We hope that more people will contribute, and we hope the education will help people understand the need to join,” she added.
