Iconic music executive, Hammer of The Last Two, has recounted how he lost a huge investment due to what he describes as weak structures in the music industry.

In a discussion shared on X by Joy Prime on October 9, 2025, Hammer noted that the music industry lacks proper structures that enable musicians to excel.

He explained that to rebuild the industry, Ghana needs a centralised management system, which would assure investors of return on investment.

“I watched an investor walk away, and I couldn’t stop him just because we didn’t have a centralised authority that could assure him that if he put this amount of money in the business. Our issue is that we don’t have a centralised authority helping these boys out.

“Nobody is helping these boys. GHAMRO is not even in the picture. They are just like royalty; they are the last kind of defence. MUSIGA is irrelevant. They are not doing what they’re supposed to do.

“But the authority we need is not about these associations. The authority we need is a plan that is a national agenda, solid, which transcends party politics. It has to be bipartisan,” he said.

Hammer further recounted an incident in 2002 where Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, lost interest in investing in the industry due to a lack of proper structures.

“In 2002, when Nana Kwame Bediako, Cheddar, came back to Ghana, he heard that Hammer had taken over the country. So he came to my studio and said, ‘Look, I have connections with Virgin Music.

“He wants to know the numbers. What are the numbers we’re working with? I called Big Ben, called Akua Badu, and everybody was giving me their own numbers… Nana Kwame lost interest in the industry because it wasn’t structured, nothing was working,” he added.
