A tragic accident occurred in Asamankese, Eastern Region, on Tuesday, 12th August 2025, leaving residents and traders in a state of fear and panic.
The incident took place at the bustling Dukes Fuel Station, a central location where many people were engaged in their daily routines.
CCTV footage revealed that a sand-laden truck was passing through the town when its brakes failed. Despite the driver’s efforts to regain control, the truck swerved out of its lane, smashing into a fuel pump at the station and then colliding with nearby buildings.
Witnesses recounted the terrifying moment, with many fleeing in all directions to escape the out-of-control vehicle. Loud screams and shouts filled the air as the truck sped toward them. Traders left their goods behind, while pedestrians scrambled to safety.
Several people sustained injuries, including cuts, bruises, and fractures, and were promptly taken to nearby medical facilities. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, but health officials are closely monitoring the injured.
Locals expressed disbelief at the incident, emphasizing how crowded the area usually is. Many credited divine intervention for preventing loss of life. “Had the truck exploded at the fuel station, the entire town could have faced a catastrophe,” remarked one witness.
Police have launched an investigation into the brake failure, while authorities urge drivers to conduct proper vehicle checks before hitting the road to avoid similar tragedies.
