Former manager of Mr Drew, Philip Nelson, popularly known as Jeezy, has come out to defend the singer against recent claims made by music duo DopeNation.
According to Jeezy, DopeNation did not co-write Mr Drew’s hit song This Year, as they alleged.
His response follows an interview DopeNation had on the Headless YouTuber’s channel, where the twin brothers claimed they co-wrote and produced This Year, but were not credited for their contribution.
However, in a post on X on July 29, 2025, Jeezy denied their claims and questioned why the duo would make such statements when, according to him, they did not contribute to the songwriting or production of the track.
Jeezy explained that the only reason Mr Drew and his team went to DopeNation’s studio was to re-record vocals because they were not satisfied with the original version they had.
He insisted that the duo did not write any part of the lyrics or produce any segment of the beat for the song, and therefore should not expect to be credited as co-writers or producers.
“What I don’t understand be how confident dem talk the lie. We come take vocals from your studio because we didn’t like the first one. You say we for acknowledge you as a co-writer. Which part of the lyrics did you write or which part of the beat did you play. SMH,” he wrote.
