Ghanaian actor Clement Bonney, popularly known as Mr Beautiful, has talked about the harsh reality facing Ghanaian actors who built the country’s entertainment industry but died in poverty.

In a February 25, 2026, interview on Onua FM with Osei Felicia, he disclosed that he keeps photographs of late industry icons in his room to honour their contributions and remember the struggles they endured.

“I have Araba Stamp’s picture in my room, together with some other legends who are late. I love them because they did amazing and we are the beneficiaries of what they started,” he said.

He pointed out that many of these trailblazers passed away without financial security.

“These are the people who died without getting anything. They died poor and it was the system,” he said.

Mr Beautiful attributed these hardships to structural flaws in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

“Any country with a lesser population, entertainment doesn’t pay well. If you have a smaller population and your rules and regulation doesn’t regulate the entertainment field well, that brings poverty to the people,” he explained. He added that fame does not always lead to lasting financial stability.

He recounted examples of celebrated actors struggling with basic needs despite their legendary status, emphasizing the urgency for systems that safeguard creatives.

“That’s why the popular aged people will get fame and everything, but they will die poorly. Araba Stamp used to sleep at the Art centre and she was staying there as well. She didn’t have anywhere to stay, although she was a legend,” Mr Beautiful further stated.
