Award-winning Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has called on movie producers to improve the welfare and remuneration of veteran actors, whom she says have been unfairly neglected.

Speaking in an interview on Neat FM on November 26, 2025, the actress highlighted the sacrifices made by older actors who paved the way for today’s stars.

“The veterans paved the way for us to also get the chance. During their era, there was nothing like being signed or getting an appearance fee. They were not paid in huge sums like how casts now charge.

“I think what favours them now is how well they took care of their children so the children are also helping in taking care of them. As for the job, they worked hard but ran at a loss,” she said.

Gloria Sarfo lamented that many producers no longer cast veteran actors, unlike in Nigeria, where older actors continue to receive respect and opportunities.

“I’m urging the producers to pay the veterans well when you engage them. Producers don’t like involving them anymore or maybe they think their era has passed. Compared to Nigerians, they are still featuring the veterans in their movies and they respect them so much,” she stressed.

She continued, “Till date, when a young actor meets a veteran, they bow to them. How we are neglecting them is not fair. We don’t even like casting them anymore.”

Gloria disclosed the emotional and professional toll neglecting veterans has on the industry.

She argued that failing to support veteran actors emotionally and financially is hurting the Ghanaian movie industry.

“When you have passion for a particular job and you don’t check the chance to do it, it kills your spirit. You can imagine how they feel for how we are neglecting them. They’re pouring their tears on the industry. Their tears is part of the reason why the movie industry is not moving forward. We shouldn’t neglect them,” she stated.

She urged producers to not only pay veterans fairly but also ensure their safety and comfort during productions.

“When you engage with a veteran actor, pay them well. When they didn’t drive to the location, make sure they get home safely. They shouldn’t get to a point where they will be begging for money so that we can laugh at them. They didn’t commit any crime for being actors,” she added.
