Liverpool legend Mohammed Salah

Egyptian football legend Ahmed Elmohamady has hit back at Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher over his criticism of Mohamed Salah’s decision to go public with his contract situation at Liverpool.

Following Salah’s decision to call out Liverpool over their supposed failure to offer him a new deal, Jamie Carragher criticized the Egyptian for seeking to divert attention from the club’s UEFA Champions League game against Real Madrid on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Carragher explained that the reason Liverpool has not yet offered Salah a new contract is due to the huge difference in valuation and length of the contract.

“But I must say, I am disappointed in Mo Salah,” Carragher remarked.

“Liverpool has a massive week ahead with Real Madrid and Manchester City, and those should be the focal points for the club. For Salah to choose now to speak out is disappointing.”

He added, “In his seven years at Liverpool, he has only stopped in the mixed zone twice to speak to the media. But he chose to stop a third time after the Southampton game, where he had just won Liverpool the match, to put this out there.”

Carragher subsequently took to social media and doubled down on the criticism, which triggered former Aston Villa player Ahmed Elmohamady to issue a response.

“Jamie, leave Salah alone and get a grip. José Mourinho was right about what he said about you,” he posted on his X channel.

What Mourinho said about Salah

José Mourinho is reported to have questioned the competence of Jamie Carragher to criticize some stars in the Premier League.

He is quoted as saying, “Jamie Carragher talks too much for someone who isn’t even among the top 1,000 defenders in football history. How can someone who never won the Premier League talk about what it takes to win the Premier League?”
