Mourinho shared a warm embrace with Wesley Sneijder

José Mourinho shared a brief but meaningful reunion with former player Wesley Sneijder before Benfica’s Champions League clash against Ajax in Amsterdam on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

Back in 2010, Mourinho was the coach and Sneijder a key player during Inter’s historic Champions League triumph, and their brief pre-match meeting brought back memories of that legendary campaign.

The two met at the sidelines ahead of kickoff, exchanging greetings and reminiscing about their time at the Italian club.

The pre-match encounter added a sentimental touch to Benfica’s 2-0 victory over the Dutch side, a result that keeps the Eagles’ hopes alive in the 2025/26 group stage.

Samuel Dahl opened the scoring early, while Leandro Barreiro sealed the win late in the game, handing Benfica their first three points of the campaign.

Sneijder, now in contention for the Ajax technical director role, was spotted at the stadium following a recommendation from Curaçao national team coach Dick Advocaat.
