Ghana and AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu has taken a major step in his recovery process after returning to the training pitch following a lengthy injury absence.

The Ghanaian defender has been sidelined since January this year after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his left knee during the closing stages of a Ligue 1 clash against Olympique Lyonnais.

The injury ruled him out for several months and raised concerns over his availability for future assignments with both club and country.

In recent footage from AS Monaco training, Salisu was seen working alongside teammate Takumi Minamino and other members of the squad, taking part in light running drills and ball exercises as part of his rehabilitation process.

The defender’s return to the pitch has generated excitement among Ghanaian football fans, with many already asking whether he could recover in time to make the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, reports suggest the 27-year-old is unlikely to return to competitive action before the end of the season. Monaco’s medical team are believed to be taking a cautious approach with his recovery and are not expected to rush him back into matches as they prioritize his full fitness ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his World Cup chances, Salisu’s return to training remains a positive development for both Monaco and Ghana as the center-back continues his recovery journey after months on the sidelines.
