Digital content marketing expert, Jonathan Nii Laryea

Digital content marketing expert, Jonathan Nii Laryea, popularly known as Jonilar, has said that the era of dismissing mobile content creation as unprofessional or low-quality is over.

He underscores that mobile content creation has become a critical part of new media, documenting culture and shaping lives across Ghana and beyond.

“To all stakeholders involved in shaping our media space, I humbly appeal to you to understand the dynamics of mobile content creation, a critical aspect of new media. The days of assuming that content created with mobile phones is neither professional nor high-quality are over.

“Many of us in this space are not simply waving phone cameras around; we are documenting Ghana’s culture and telling stories that are shaping lives,” he said in a post on Facebook on August 27, 2025.

Boast of extensive experience in the music, media and tourism, the social media manager observed that, mobile creators often face neglect and disregard, particularly at national functions.

“I’m sharing this because the neglect and disregard for mobile content creators at state events is deeply embarrassing. Just the other day, I had to intervene for some amazing creators to gain access to an ICT event in Accra,” he revealed.

Jonilar acknowledged that while some creators occasionally overstep boundaries, there is a need for institutions to regulate the sector.

“That said, I acknowledge that some of our colleagues occasionally overstep boundaries. This is why I’ve previously called on institutions to recognize and regulate our work, so we can align with standards where necessary,” he noted.

He further stressed that traditional media houses have already embraced this shift.

“Traditional media houses that understand the power of digital media are now engaging professional mobile content creators—because this shift is undeniable and irreversible.”

Encouraging fellow creators, he urged them to remain disciplined and focused in the quest of playing their roles to the new dimension of the media industry.

“To all who are passionate about content creation: learn the craft, respect authority, and stay committed. I know the treatment can sometimes be harsh, but remember—you are contributing to a major transformation in our media space, one that will impact generations to come,” he encouraged.
