The Minority in Parliament wants Dr Hanna Bisiw-Kotei (R) and Malik Basintale (L) dismissed
The Minority in Parliament has condemned the National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei; and Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale; for justifying the assault on the former Minister of Fisheries and Acquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, during the recent Ablekuma North parliamentary election rerun.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, Laurette Korkor Asante, called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately dismiss the government officials who justified the political violence.
“President Mahama must immediately dismiss Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei from her position as CEO of the Minerals Development Fund and Malik Basintale from his role as Acting CEO of the Youth Employment Agency. Their celebration and justification of violence against opposition figures disqualifies them from holding any public office. This dismissal must happen to demonstrate that the government does not condone political violence,” she remarked.
She also called for a probe into the role of law enforcement officials during the rerun, particularly a senior officer who slapped a journalist.
“The Ghana Police Service must conduct a thorough investigation into their security failures, including the alleged role of Chief Superintendent Lumor Frederick Senanu. Any officers found to be complicit must face immediate dismissal and criminal prosecution.
“The president cannot remain silent while members of his government celebrate violence against opposition figures. Their continued presence in government sends a dangerous message that the Mahama administration condones political violence,” she said.
She continued to state that; “President Mahama must choose: does he stand with Ghana’s democratic institutions, or does he stand with officials who celebrate attacks on former Members of Parliament? His decision will define his legacy.”
Chaos broke out at the Odorkor Methodist Church polling station, where thugs overwhelmed security personnel and physically assaulted several individuals, including the former Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson.
Hawa Koomson was shoved to the ground and stomped in the chest and groin before police intervened to rescue her.
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has assured the public that all perpetrators of the violence will be identified and face prosecution in accordance with the law.
