Ghana’s government has escalated diplomatic engagement following allegations that a Russian national recorded and circulated intimate images of Ghanaian women without consent.

In a formal meeting held today, Samuel Nartey George and Agnes Naa Momo Lartey met with Sergei Berdnikov after the government summoned the envoy over the matter.

The engagement underscores the administration of John Dramani Mahama’s stated commitment to protecting the dignity, privacy, and rights of Ghanaian citizens while ensuring accountability through lawful diplomatic and international cooperation.

According to officials, preliminary investigations suggest the alleged acts involve non-consensual recording and online monetisation of intimate content. Authorities are pursuing the matter as a cybercrime under Ghanaian law and are collaborating with international partners to trace digital and financial evidence.

The ministers reaffirmed that the issue is not a moral debate but a criminal investigation focused on protecting victims and enforcing the Cybersecurity Act.

While there is no extradition agreement between Ghana and Russia, the Ambassador reportedly confirmed that the information would be forwarded to authorities in Moscow for consideration. Ghanaian authorities say diplomatic and legal channels remain active as investigations continue.

Government officials reiterated a warning to the public that sharing or redistributing the material constitutes a criminal offence and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has also activated confidential support services for victims, assuring affected individuals that assistance will be provided with discretion and professionalism.

Further updates are expected as investigative processes advance.
