    A corper shared the humorous experience that comes with Nigeria’s NYSC program and the beautiful diversity of its languages and cultural experience.

    The corps member posted to a public school to serve as his place of primary assignment (PPA), was amazed at how the students warmly greeted him.

    They welcomed him in their native language, Urhobo, respectfully greeting him in the way their tradition dictates, which is a respectful salutation to elders.

    They chorused;

    “Migwo sir (Good morning Sir)

    How are you (10 times)

    Migwo dey cry (Laughing-out-loud)

    Migwo sir (Good morning Sir)

    How are you (8 times)

    Fine sir!”

    At first, he was taken aback, unfamiliar with the local way of greeting. However, not wanting to appear rude to the students, he earnestly replied to their greetings every single time.

    According to the gentleman, it became an unintentional running joke to him and a catchphrase among the students because of how confused he looked at them every time they greeted him in their local language.

    The lighthearted moment has resonated with many social media users, especially fellow corps members who understood the cultural shock that comes with being posted to an unfamiliar region for service.
