Ibrahim Class Mgender (34-6-2, 7 KOs) impressively captured the vacant WBC International 130 lb title when he stopped Kritiphak Duangnut (10-6-1, 3 KOs) on Saturday, 25 April, at World Siam Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
This was a rematch, as their previous meeting on February 28 ended in a 10-round draw. Kritiphak started well with faster punches and appeared better in the first round according to the scoring of all three judges. However, from round 2, Mgender dominated with powerful jabs and body shots that completely disrupted the Thai boxer’s offensive rhythm. In round 4, the Tanzanian boxer successfully dropped his opponent once with an effective body attack. The fight ended in the fifth round when Mgender increased his body assault and floored Kritiphak again for an eight-count. Although the Thai boxer attempted to turn the tide with a last-ditch attack, the Tanzanian maintained control of the fight and delivered one-sided attacks until the referee stopped the match at 2:59.
In the other co-main event, Jonathan Yeow Ming (6-0-1, 4 KOs) stopped Keerati Sririttidet (5-4-1, 3 KOs) in round 4 to capture the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) super lightweight title. Although Ming was knocked down in the third round in what looked like a 50/50 call—either from a punch or a slip—he recovered and won by knockout with a powerful body punch, resulting in a full 10-count at 2:40 of the fourth round.
