Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mercy Johnson has called out Ghanaian TV station Blazing TV for allegedly airing her movie without her permission.

In an Instagram post on July 19, 2025, Mercy shared a screenshot of a message she received from a fan, alerting her that her film ‘The Firstborn’ was being shown on the station.

Reacting to the news, Mercy questioned how the station could broadcast her work without proper authorisation.

“How is this even okay? Blazing TV in Ghana is airing my movie The Firstborn without my consent. How does this even make sense? How? I am speechless at the audacity of it all,” she wrote.

Mercy Johnson joins a growing number of Nollywood filmmakers who have accused Ghanaian TV stations of airing their films without approval.

In April 2025, actress Bimbo Ademoye also raised concerns about Ghanaian channels broadcasting her films without consent. She tagged key Ghanaian officials, including the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, and the CEO of the National Film Authority, Kafui Danku, urging them to take action.

That same month, filmmaker Omoni Oboli criticised Ghanaian TV stations for uploading Nollywood films to YouTube without securing the necessary rights. She noted that while she appreciates her Ghanaian fans, it is disappointing that many Ghanaian TV stations rely on Nigerian content without respecting copyright laws.
