Actor Jay Fordjour Snr has sparked conversation after stating that many men do not prefer their partners to give birth vaginally, citing concerns about episiotomy and its possible aftermath.

Speaking in an interview with MzGee on G O’clock, the actor suggested that men would rather their partners opt for a caesarean section than go through vaginal delivery.

According to him, procedures such as episiotomy make vaginal birth less appealing to some men.

“I mean, it is obvious why we do not prefer that,” he said.

“Have you heard of episiotomy? It is not a good look. It may offend some people, but…” he added, trailing off.

Jay Fordjour’s comments followed emotional accounts shared on the same show by actress and musician Nana Frema, who spoke about her challenging labour experiences.

Nana Frema, a mother of two boys, revealed that although she was hopeful of having vaginal deliveries, both pregnancies ended in caesarean sections after prolonged and painful labour.

“I have had labour twice, very painful labour, but in the end, I ended up in the theatre for a C-section, so it is not easy. The first time, I experienced labour from Saturday morning till Sunday—about twenty-something hours. It was painful, and I was still trying to give birth vaginally. Imagine if I had been stubborn and insisted on a vaginal delivery,” she said.

The discussion has since generated debate on childbirth choices, women’s health, and societal perceptions surrounding labour and delivery.
