The Weija Leprosarium has shared recent developments highlighting medical support for residents, community engagements and preparations for a milestone celebration.
Priscilla’s Return and Medical Care
On August 14, 2025, Young Priscilla, who was abandoned by her parents at birth due to her condition, returned to Ghana in good health after a medical trip abroad, accompanied by Rev Father Andrew Campbell and Donna. Together, they visited Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to express gratitude for sponsoring her treatment.
However, later that evening, Priscilla fell ill, experiencing severe pain in her amputated leg.
She was rushed to the Accra Medical Center, where she was admitted for treatment. The Leprosarium reports that she is currently responding well and recovering steadily.
Fr. Campbell’s Engagements
The founder of the Leprosarium, Fr Campbell, was honoured at several events this month. On August 9, 2025, he was a special guest at the 60th Anniversary of St Roses Senior High School.
The occasion was a joyful reunion, as he had dedicated 35 years to conducting annual retreats for the students.
A week later, on August 16, 2025, Fr Campbell was the guest of honour at the Sempe Homowo Festival, a colourful celebration that drew the participation of several dignitaries.
Preparations for 80th Birthday
In recognition of his decades of humanitarian work, a committee has been inaugurated to plan Fr Campbell’s 80th birthday celebration, scheduled for March 27, 2026.
Organisers have assured that details of the programme will soon be made public.
Lions Club International Donation and Eye Screening
The Leprosarium also hosted a health initiative on August 19, 2025, when Lions Club International and Watborg partnered to conduct free eye screenings for residents and street children enrolled at the centre.
The visiting team also made a generous donation to support the facility’s activities.
Management of the Leprosarium expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Lions Club for their continued support.
