Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has advised his brother to be prepared for the realities of marriage while offering his support.
Social media was abuzz after videos and pictures from the wedding of Emmanuel George, who married his long-time fiancée, Ruth Ewoenam, surfaced online.
The beautiful ceremony, held in Accra on April 12, 2025, saw various dignitaries and family members in attendance.
Speaking at the wedding, Sam George, who also served as the best man, reflected on the joys and challenges of marriage while celebrating his brother’s union.
He noted that Emmanuel had been his best man 13 years ago when he married his wife, Vera.
“It’s a thing of pride to see my kid brother walk down the aisle today. Thirteen years ago, when I got married, he was my best man. And 13 years later, as he gets married, I’m his best man as well.
“I wish him all the best. I wish him the best that marriage and life have to offer, for himself and his lovely wife, Ruth,” he said.
The MP offered a piece of advice to his brother, dispelling the myth of a “fairy tale” marriage.
“Marriage is a long journey. Every day is not sweet. Every day is not a bed of roses. People have a fairy tale idea of marriage, but 13 years down the line, the little I’ve learned is that it’s topsy-turvy.
“There are very nice days, and there are very tough days. There are days when you ask yourself, ‘Why did I even get married?’ There are days when you wake up and your wife is annoying you, and the same way, you will annoy her. But I mean, it’s a ‘for better or worse’ journey,” he added.
Sam George, however, balanced the realism with hope, wishing Emmanuel and Ruth more days of “butterflies” than anger.
“The better parts are the good days when you feel the butterflies in your stomach. I pray and wish that the days of butterflies will be more than the days of anger.”
Sam George’s speech concluded with warm wishes for the couple: fruitful parenthood, healthy children, and “maybe twins” to bless their union.
“I pray and wish for sound kids, a fruitful marriage, healthy children, very few hospital visits — except for child delivery — and maybe twins for them.”
In conclusion, Sam George assured them of his unwavering support.
“I’ve got their back. And Emma should know that I love him dearly as my brother, and I’ll always have him on lockdown. He knows he can always count on his big brother at any time. So long as I’m alive, he’s covered,” he said.
