Ace broadcaster Bright Kankam Boadu has pointed to the attitude of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament as a key factor behind their humiliating loss in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on Pure FM, Boadu argued that many NPP MPs alienated their constituents by acting superior and abandoning their role as public servants.

This perceived arrogance, he suggested, eroded trust and support among voters.

“There are some people who vote for various reasons, but a lot of the MPs, and I’m using my constituency as an example, the people were happy when he lost the primaries,” Boadu said.

“A lot of the MPs became lords and not servants. The very moment you become like that, the people will see you differently,” he added.

He also criticised the MPs for failing to address pressing issues in their constituencies while openly displaying wealth.

“During their primaries, they were sharing 10,000. It means you had that money on you while people were hungry on the street, and this is the result,” he added.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to dominate Ghana’s parliament, having secured a commanding majority of 184 out of 276 seats.

The NPP’s loss extended to the presidential race, where their candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat.

In the final tally, Bawumia garnered 4,657,304 votes (41.61%), falling significantly short of the president-elect John Dramani Mahama’s 6,328,397 votes (56.55%).

The results signal a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape, with the NPP left to reflect on its missteps.
