After weeks of anticipation, the winner of the 67th Grammy’s Best African Music Performance has been finally revealed.

The event which took place on February 2nd, 2025, announced Nigerian singer Tems’ ‘Love Me Jeje’ as the winner of the prestigious award, making her a two-time Grammy winner.

The singer earned her first Grammy for her contribution to the American rapper Future’s hit single ‘Wait For You’. Now she has earned her second Grammy and first as a Solo artist.

The category had been introduced at the 66th Grammy Award where popular South African singer Tyla won with her hit single ‘Water’.

Just like that time, Tems had also been nominated for the award, but unlike then she was the one that emerged victorious among various other competitions, beating out Yemi Alade’s ‘Tomorrow’, Asake ‘MMS’, Chris Brown’s ‘Sensational’ feat Davido & Lojay, and Burna Boy’s ‘Higher’.

While many were happy for the artist congratulating her on her incredible achievements, others especially fans of another artist who wanted their faves to win were quick to hate on her.

Some took issues with the category itself, saying that one category was not enough for the various types of African music. Regardless many saw her win as a collective achievement for her country, with celebrities such as Davido congratulating her.
