Danish humanitarian worker Anja Ringgren Lovén has celebrated two years since she and her team rescued a severely malnourished toddler who had been abandoned in Akwa Ibom State after being accused of witchcraft.

The child, now called Hope, was saved in March 2024 when Lovén and her team found her in a critical condition and close to death. Since the rescue, Hope has been receiving care and support, and her recovery has continued to inspire many people around the world.

In a Facebook post shared on Thursday, March 19, 2026, Lovén reflected on the journey over the past two years and posted a video showing how much Hope has grown. She described the experience of caring for the little girl as a period filled with happiness, love, and meaningful moments.

“It’s been 2 years now since we rescued Hope. 2 years of living in Hope’s world. 2 years of your love and support. Thank you Hope for spreading so much joy and light wherever you go. Your smile is healing. We gave you life but you gave us more,” she wrote.

Lovén also thanked supporters who have stood by them throughout the journey, saying that although they helped save Hope’s life, the child has also brought immense joy and positivity into their lives with her bright smile and loving spirit.
