A young man in his early twenties has met his untimely death after he drowned in the Birim River. The young man was part of four other individuals who were traveling in a boat a few days ago.
Details available indicate that the deceased was part of a group of young galamseyers at Birim in the Eastern Region.
Reporting the story on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Nana Stone said that the deceased and his colleagues were traveling in the boat to their galamsey site.
However, the boat capsized, and the five fell into the water. Four of them managed to survive because they knew how to swim; however, Nana Yaw, now deceased, could not swim.
All efforts to locate him failed, and for a week, residents searched for him. After a week, the remains of the young man were recovered on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Nana Stone added that Nana Yaw was two weeks away from going for training as a military recruit.
According to him, Nana Yaw had purchased all the items he needed for his training but lost his life while on a galamsey site.
He also revealed that the traditional authorities in the area performed some rites before the body was retrieved, with his genitals, eyes, and other parts of the body missing. The body was also in a decomposing state.
