An elderly man has died after he was attacked outside a bank on a London high street.

The man, believed to be a Bolivian national, was found injured at the scene on Seven Sisters Road in Islington, north London, yesterday evening. He was rushed to hospital but sadly died today.

Three teenage girls aged 14, 16, and 17, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily prior to the 75-year-old’s death. Police have said this is now being reviewed.

His next of kin have been informed and police have said that a post-mortem examination will take place.

The teenagers remain in custody and a probe into the man’s death is ongoing.

DCI Paul Waller, leading the murder investigation said: ‘Three people are in custody and specialists from across the Met have been working at pace since last night to establish exactly what happened.

‘Every possible line of inquiry is being followed, and this includes forensic work and ongoing enquiries to identify all available CCTV.’

Pictures taken this morning show a large cordon has been set up around a Nationwide bank on Seven Sisters Road, near the junction with Holloway Road.
