Legendary gospel musician, Esther Boakye, known widely as Mama Esther, has provided insight into her absence from the Ghanaian music scene.
The legendary gospel musician has been absent from the music space since releasing four albums nine years ago.
In an interview with Zionfelix, Mama Esther outlined a number of reasons behind her protracted hiatus from the industry.
She mentioned the four albums released on her 50th birthday as the major reason behind the break, as she wanted her fans and gospel music lovers to exhaust all the songs on those albums.
“It’s been nine years since I released a song. Initially, it was a 2-year interval, but it changed to nine years because of something that happened during my 50th birthday. I marked my 50th birthday with the release of four albums.
“The albums included Pentecost Volume 1 & 2, and I did that because I had done the music thing for 15 years without projecting music from my church. People thought I wasn’t proud of my Pentecostal heritage, so I decided to dedicate those albums to music from my church. I also released Best of Mama Esther and Me Lazarus Besore, so there were four albums. I realized the songs were too many to be digested within just two years, so I decided to give it some space and allow people to enjoy the songs.
“Secondly, the current generation seems to love my music. On TikTok and other social media platforms, I see them enjoying some of the old songs I didn’t promote, so I decided to take a break and allow them to enjoy it,” she said.
Mama Esther, who is set to mark her 59th birthday with a single track dubbed “Nyame Nye Mistake,” disclosed that the song is an expression of her gratitude to her teeming fans who have kept her ministry alive for the past nine years.
She explained that the song, which will be released on her 59th birthday which is February 21, 2025, is meant to motivate Christians and gospel music lovers, assuring them of the faithfulness of God.
In “Nyame Nye Mistake,” Mama Esther offers a poignant message of trust and surrender to divine will. The song’s lyrics encourage listeners to find solace in the belief that every life event unfolds according to a higher purpose, even when circumstances are challenging.
