Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has added his voice to the ongoing conversation where some individuals are calling on African leaders to unlock the continent’s potential by removing visa restrictions within Africa.

In a video shared on X, Sarkodie emphasised that it is time for Africans to unite and push back against the borders that divide the continent, noting that Africa’s fragmentation has made it difficult for young, business-minded individuals to thrive.

According to Sarkodie, the call for a borderless Africa is not a protest but rather a call to action, stressing that Africans genuinely need it.

The kind of money in music can rival real estate – Sarkodie

“Africa, borderless to me, is not a protest. It’s not a complaint. It’s a call to action rooted in economic sense, dignity, and Africa’s self-belief. As creatives, we see this clearly. Music moves where visitors hesitate. Art travels where paperwork delays. Culture flows freely across Africa, even when people and groups struggle to do the same.

“Our system just needs to catch up. But let us be honest about who pays the price for this fragmentation. Is it the woman entrepreneur with a great product, discipline, and vision who cannot reach customers across borders because the system works against her?” he said.

The rapper further noted that a borderless Africa would encourage young creatives with outstanding business ideas and talent to expand their businesses and creativity with ease.

“A borderless Africa is not about removing identity. It is about unlocking value. It is about turning innovation into industry, creativity into commerce, and ambition into shared prosperity. When women trade freely, economies expand. When youth scale across borders, jobs multiply. When SMEs move goods, services, and capital without friction, Africa becomes competitive.

“This is why I stand with the movement, not because it sounds good, but because it works. Not because it’s fashionable, but because it is necessary. Not because it is radical, but because it is long, long overdue,” he added.

Sarkodie’s comment comes in the wake of the just-ended 2026 Africa Prosperity Dialogues held in Accra, where Mr Eazi made similar remarks.

African leaders have been urged to end visa restrictions, open up skies for airlines, and introduce a single biometric passport to boost trade under the AfCFTA.
