The desperate search for the missing head of a man allegedly murdered by his former Beauty and the Geek star partner has been suspended.

Police allege Tamika Chesser, 34, murdered and then decapitated Julian Story, 38, at the unit they shared in Port Lincoln about midnight on June 17.

The former reality star then allegedly used a bag to transport his head to an unknown location in the famous South Australian fishing port.

Officers, assisted by SES, were previously scouring cliffs and bush around the town along with the waters off the Eyre Peninsula.

Areas have been searched in and around Port Lincoln including reserves, parks, bushland and the ocean around the pier and bay area.

The multi-agency search was called off on Tuesday afternoon.

‘Intensive searching using these resources has been paused for now but may resume at a later stage,’ SAPOL said in a statement.

‘Investigators are now in the process of reviewing a significant amount of CCTV footage to determine any other areas for searching and may return to Port Lincoln.

‘Police wish to reassure the public that the accused remains in custody charged with murder, and that this was not a random incident.’

Investigators are trying to track Chesser’s movements in the week of the murder, particularly between midnight on June 17 and and 3.30pm on June 19.

Police previously released CCTV images and video which showed Ms Chesser walking three dogs and carrying a bag while wearing a Hijab-style head covering.

Local residents have been asked to review any CCTV or dashcam footage they have which may assist the police investigation.

‘We are releasing the details of this horrific crime because it is vital for Julian’s family to peacefully lay him to rest,’ Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said.

‘We know that Tamika did not drive a vehicle and regularly walked around the township of Port Lincoln. We are appealing to anyone who can help us to identify Tamika’s movements to please contact police.’

Police allege Mr Story was murdered on about June 17, but it was not until June 19 that his neighbours noticed smoke coming from inside his unit.

When emergency services responded, they found Mr Story dismembered and missing his head on the bathroom floor of the apartment, according to police.

The former Beauty and the Geek star was allegedly found in a ‘catatonic and unresponsive’ state when she was arrested.

Police charged her with murder and, after being released from Port Lincoln hospital, she was admitted to James Nash House, a forensic mental health care facility.

Two local residents told Daily Mail Australia that Chesser had only arrived in town a few months ago, and that she had a shaved head.

The 34-year-old, who finished second in series two of Beauty and the Geek in 2010, visited K-Mart and other shops in central Port Lincoln, usually accompanied by a dog.
