FSV Mainz 05 sporting director Niko Bungert has expressed excitement following the club’s capture of Ghana international Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer from Hamburger SV ahead of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season.

The 24-year-old striker is switching to the Carnival Club after helping Hamburger SV secure promotion during the just-ended campaign, where he made 33 Bundesliga appearances and scored five goals.

Speaking after the transfer was completed, Bungert praised the Ghanaian forward’s qualities and believes his style of play perfectly suits Mainz’s attacking system.

“Ransford Konigsdorffer is a quick, physical forward whose style of play will fit our attack very well,” Bungert said.

“He has been on the pitch in almost every competitive game over the past few seasons and has developed into a Bundesliga regular.”

The Mainz sporting director also highlighted the striker’s age and potential development, insisting the club is pleased to have convinced him to join the project.

“At 24, Ransford is at an excellent age and we’re very pleased that we were able to convince him to take the next steps in his career with us at Mainz 05,” he added.

Konigsdorffer has enjoyed a steady rise in German football, having featured prominently for both Hamburger SV and Dynamo Dresden over the past few seasons.

Across both clubs, the German-born Ghanaian has played 130 matches in the 2. Bundesliga and scored 29 goals.

The forward is also hoping his move to Mainz 05 and continued performances in the Bundesliga will strengthen his chances of making Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
