Media personality Nana Ama Agyemang Asante has criticized President John Dramani Mahama, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, over his attire at the graduation parade of officer cadet intake 63 at the Ghana Military Academy in Teshie, Accra.

During the ceremony on April 11, 2025, the President donned full military regalia, stating that he wore the uniform to pay tribute to the gallant soldiers of Ghana.

However, the journalist expressed her disapproval, saying, “I mean, how is it that no one in the room thought to say, hey, maybe this is wildly childish and undermines the very authority you’re trying to project? I need JDM’s people to do their jobs well instead of enabling weird performance arts.”

In another post, she stated, “Our President, who already has a broad mandate and is the head of the armed forces, is out here playing dress-up like he’s auditioning for a military-themed reality show. Why? Where were his people when this disappointing decision was made?”

Meanwhile, President John Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the Ghana Military Academy (GMA) through improved infrastructure and academic advancement.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the President outlined a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing military training and education in the country.

He announced plans to upgrade the Academy’s commissioning course to the level of a postgraduate diploma for newly commissioned officers.

This move, he said, is part of a broader strategy to elevate the quality and prestige of military education in Ghana.

President Mahama also reiterated the government’s dedication to establishing the National Defence University, a specialized institution that will offer strategic academic programmes for both military personnel and civilians.

He emphasized that the university will play a key role in advancing higher education while promoting military discipline and doctrine within the academic space.

I mean, how is it that no one in the room thought to say, “Hey, maybe this is wildly childish and undermines the very authority you’re trying to project?”
