Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has taken a swipe at Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin over the outcome of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recent presidential primaries in his constituency.
Mr. Ayariga raised the issue during proceedings in Parliament while commenting on the Minority Leader’s frequent calls for investigations into government actions.
He began by congratulating the NPP for successfully organising its internal presidential primary, which produced a flag bearer for the party.
“I want to congratulate the New Patriotic Party for organising an internal primary that has produced a flag bearer,” he noted.
He also congratulated former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on his victory in the contest.
Turning his attention to the Minority Leader, Mr. Ayariga pointed to the voting results from Mr. Afenyo-Markin’s own constituency.
According to him, Kennedy Agyapong secured 644 votes in the constituency, while Dr. Bawumia managed only 79 votes.
“I paid attention to the results in his constituency. Kennedy Agyapong had 644 votes, while Dr. Bawumia got only 79 votes,” he stated.
Mr. Ayariga then used the figures to mock the Minority Leader’s calls for parliamentary inquiries.
“Given his enthusiasm for inquiries, I think this is a matter we should also look into,” he added.
