A breakfast meeting with church leaders and pastors in the Madina Constituency was held at the Charismatic Evangelistic Ministry, bringing together various religious leaders and stakeholders.

The Member of Parliament for Madina, Lawyer Francis-Xavier Sosu, led the engagement, which aimed to strengthen ties between the clergy and political leadership in the constituency.

Church leaders praised the MP for his performance during his first term, highlighting his efforts in raising the profile of Madina.

They commended him for his commitment to the religious community, noting his regular attendance at church events and dedication to days of fasting and prayers, an initiative they described as unprecedented in the constituency.

In his response, Lawyer Sosu thanked the clergy for their continuous support and prayers, urging them to rally behind him for another term in office.

He assured them of his commitment to the constituency and outlined some of the legislative work he has undertaken, including the controversial Witchcraft Bill.

Sosu explained that while witchcraft accusations are prevalent, such matters should be handled spiritually and not through abuse or violence, particularly when elderly individuals are targeted.

“One of the most serious issues we face is how people, often out of ignorance, accuse others of witchcraft, leading to violence and even lynching. Jesus never harassed anyone as a witch; instead, he cast out demons to free people,” – Sosu stated, and the Clergymen applauded him.

A key concern raised by the clergy during the meeting was their desire to embark on religious pilgrimages to Israel, akin to the Muslim community’s Hajj to Mecca.

The MP acknowledged the request, admitting he was unaware of the formal process but pledged to assist in creating measures to help the clergy raise funds for such trips.

Also in attendance was the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi. He urged the clergy to support Sosu’s re-election bid, describing him as a righteous leader. Sammy Gyamfi contrasted Sosu with his main opponent, accusing the contender of engaging in illegal mining activities (galamsey) that have ravaged lands and polluted rivers in Ayensuano.

“The 2024 election is not just between the NDC and NPP; it is a battle between righteousness and darkness,” Gyamfi declared, urging the religious leaders to support a candidate who prioritizes justice and community welfare.

The meeting ended with a renewed call for collaboration between the clergy and Political Parties, as the constituency looks ahead to the 2024 general elections.
