Most times, creatives say that inspiration comes from unexpected places, sometimes even during casual conversations with family or friends.

Ghanaian rapper M.anifest has revealed that one such moment led to the creation of the beat for his song “Invisible,” which appeared on his 2016 album Nowhere Cool.

On August 13, 2025, a fan took to X to praise the song, labelling it one of the greatest songs ever to come out of Ghana.

“M.anifest’s Invisible is one of the greatest songs to come out of Ghana. Everything in the song is on point from messaging, beat, and everything!” the fan wrote.

The rapper chanced on the post and decided to share the backstory behind the beat.

He explained that while working on the album ‘Nowhere Cool,’ he would often play drafts of his songs for his grandfather.

One day, during one of these listening sessions, his grandfather made an observation that changed the direction of “Invisible.”

According to the God MC, taking the advice to heart, he went to the studio and began building the song’s beat using the polyrhythmic style his grandfather advised, a rhythm inspired by traditional Ghanaian music rather than the standard patterns heard in most popular songs.

“I used to play drafts of songs to my grandpa whiles I was working on Nowhere Cool. One time he remarked how it would be interesting if I broke from the standard 4/4 beat pattern a lot of our popular music employs and lean into the polyrhythmic patterns of our traditional music,” M.anifest explained.

He added, “Went to the stu after and we built the skeleton for Invisible based on this observation. The wisdom of the elders is undefeated.”
