The Accra High Court has ordered that Daddy Lumba‘s funeral, scheduled for December 13, 2025, should proceed as planned.
This comes after the court granted an injunction application for the funeral to be halted, restraining the family head, Kofi Owusu, from organising the burial and prohibiting Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body.
However, shortly after the ruling, the Accra High Court recalled all lawyers involved and issued a fresh directive.
Earlier, the court ruled that the applicants must deposit GH¢2 million with the court by 2 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, or the funeral will proceed tomorrow, Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Lumba’s Funeral: Court gives applicants ultimatum to pay GH¢2m or burial will proceed
The court noted that while it respects the applicants’ concerns, the injunction carries significant financial implications and could unfairly burden the respondents.
The judge therefore ordered the applicants, who include members of Daddy
Lumba’s maternal family, to pay GH¢2 million as security to cover potential costs arising from the delay.
However, after the applicants failed to pay the required sum, the court ruled that the funeral could proceed on the 13th.
Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at age 60, has been at the centre of a complex family dispute over who has the authority to lead and finance his funeral arrangements.
