Victor Kofi Owusu Boahene, head of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s family, has responded to reports of a court injunction filed by the musician’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, seeking to halt preparations for his funeral.

In an interview with Tony Best on Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Kofi Owusu explained that the family had followed all traditional and formal procedures before publicly announcing plans for the funeral, which is set to take place in December 6, 2025, in Kumasi.

He said the family created a social media platform to coordinate communication among members and even paid courtesy visits to President John Dramani Mahama and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to inform them of their arrangements.

According to him, the family will hold Lumba’s final funeral rites at Heroes Park instead of the main Baba Yara Stadium.

When asked about Akosua Serwaa’s legal action, Kofi Owusu insisted that the family had not received any official court summons confirming the existence of an injunction against the funeral.

“For us, we have not gone to court to see whether there is an injunction. There is no injunction on the funeral. We would be summoned to court if it were true. Since the court hasn’t called us, we cannot accept that it is true,” he said.

However, moments later, the family head appeared to acknowledge aspects of the legal issue, confirming that Akosua Serwaa’s objection was tied to the performance of widowhood rites.

He explained that the late musician’s wife opposed the family’s decision to allow Daddy Lumba’s other partner, Odo Broni, to take part in the rites.

“The injunction relates to the widowhood rites matter. It is about the issues between the wives. She insists on being the sole participant in performing the rites. However, the Ashanti traditions also dictate that the persons married to the deceased are entitled to perform the widowhood rites,” he clarified.

Kofi Owusu further revealed that his own inquiries showed Odo Broni was legally married to Daddy Lumba before his passing.

He suggested that the ongoing tension was being fueled by individuals “working behind the scenes” to cause division within the family.

The late musician, born Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, passed away on July 26, 2025 at the Bank Hospital.
