Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw, has asserted that the First Lady Lordina Mahama wields more power in the NDC government than the Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
His remarks follows a call by the former Deputy Director at the Office of the former First Lady, Akosua Manu, on Vice President Opoku-Agyemang earlier on in June, to intervene in the ongoing processes aimed at removing the embattled Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb on June 21, 2025, Maurice Ampaw has outrightly dismissed the possibility of the vice president intervening on the matter.
“No, the Vice President cannot handle it. You know, it is a political agenda and she has been ineffective. Look at her performance, she is not active. It is a party manifesto promise, so Jane Naana cannot do anything about it. If anything, I think that Mahama’s wife (Lordina Mahama) can better assist in this matter.
“There are only two people who can change the course of this action; Mahama’s wife Lordina Mahama or Ibrahim Mahama,” he said.
He alleged that after the removal of Chief Justice Torkornoo, the NDC will turn their attention to the Electoral Commission to remove their Chairperson Jean Mensah.
