Renowned gospel singer Mavis Asante has weighed in on a long-standing debate about whether Christians should avoid make-up, jewellery, and stylish dressing, saying there is nothing wrong with looking good as long as it is done decently and modestly.
In a recent interview on Max TV, Mavis Asante argued that God appreciates things that “look good” and “are clean, neat and good looking.”

She said that although some people criticise Christians who dress in a way they deem overly fashionable or attention-seeking, what really matters is decency, comfort and a clear conscience.
“People will criticise you when you dress in a way that exposes your body or doesn’t please God. Aside from that, everyone has their own opinion. All you have to worry about is, is it decent? Are you comfortable? And are those around you also comfortable?
“If you have a clear conscience and you’re comfortable, then you are good to go,” she said.
Addressing the argument that make-up and jewellery are un-Christian, she noted that many modern technologies and conveniences would also be considered worldly if that logic were strictly applied.
“Everything in this world is for God, as long as it is not used for sin. There is no problem. Otherwise, technologies like smartphones and watches shouldn’t be used,” she said.
She argued that when these things are not used for sin, they are acceptable.
