Ghana League Clubs Association President John Ansah has joined the growing debate over home-based player inclusion in the Black Stars, urging greater trust in locally developed talent ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to Channel One Sports, Ansah backed calls for increased representation of players from the Ghana Premier League, stressing that local clubs must play a central role in producing talent capable of competing at the highest level. While describing the domestic league as one of the strongest on the continent, he noted that responsibility does not rest solely with national team selectors.

“It all boils down to giving them confidence to do more,” he said, emphasizing the need for belief in both players and clubs.

Ansah pointed out that Ghana included two home-based players at the last World Cup and handed opportunities to others during the qualifiers. With new Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz in charge, he expressed optimism about increased opportunities for domestic players.

Historically, Ghana’s World Cup squads have been dominated by foreign-based professionals, though the 2022 tournament saw a modest shift. Ansah insists sustained investment and confidence in the local game remain key.
