Liverpool were dealt a major injury blow on Saturday as Dominik Szoboszlai was forced off just half-an-hour into his comeback from a hamstring problem.

The Hungary international went down off the ball and signalled towards the Liverpool bench that he had to come off.

He was replaced by 19-year-old Trey Nyoni, who had started in the 6-3 Champions League win over LASK in midweek.

Andoni Iraola spoke on the Hungarian’s injury midweek before Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City saying: ‘Szoboszlai has a tight hamstring. That’s why he’s not available today.’

After already missing one crucial game the Spaniard thought he had his star midfielder available again but bad luck continues to dog the Reds.

He joins Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike on the sidelines leaving Iraola without three of his squad’s most vital members.

The Reds sit in ninth place after seven games and are at risk of dropping even further now that Szoboszlai could be a few more matches.

The midfielder won Liverpool’s 2025-26 Player of the Season award and picked up right where he left off this season despite his club’s poor form.

But now the onus is on Trey

Szoboszlai returned from injury this afternoon but only lasted 32 minutes before having to come off
