Messi has extended his stay with Inter Miami to 2028

Lionel Messi’s love affair with Inter Miami is set to continue for three more years. The club confirmed on Thursday, October 23, 2025, that the Argentine superstar has signed a contract extension keeping him in Miami until 2028, extending his stay beyond his previous 2025 deal.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has been nothing short of sensational this season, capturing the Golden Boot after scoring 29 goals and providing 19 assists.

His 48 goal contributions were just one shy of Carlos Vela’s single-season record, and his dominance has him in line to become the first-ever player to win back-to-back Landon Donovan MLS MVP awards.

Messi’s brilliance helped the Herons finish third in the Eastern Conference with 65 points, as they prepare to kick off their Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs campaign on Friday night against Nashville SC.

Speaking after signing the new deal, Messi expressed his deep affection for both the club and the city that has embraced him:

“It makes me really happy to stay here and to continue with this project that, besides being a dream, has become a beautiful reality, playing in this stadium, at Miami Freedom Park,” Messi said. “Since I arrived in Miami, I’ve been very happy, so I’m truly glad to keep going here.”

The Argentine captain also shared his excitement about the club’s future home, Miami Freedom Park, a project he’s eager to experience firsthand.

“We’re all really excited about the moment when we can finally play at Miami Freedom Park, We can’t wait for it to be finished, to experience it from the inside, in our new home, and for the fans to enjoy it as well. It’s going to be something very special to play at home in such a spectacular stadium,” Messi added.
