Collins Owusu Amankwah urges peaceful, out-of-court resolution to Lumba dispute Collins Owusu Amankwah urges peaceful, out-of-court resolution to Lumba dispute

Collins Owusu Amankwah, coordinator of the funeral planning committee for the late Daddy Lumba, has appealed to Akosua Serwaa’s lawyer to consider an out-of-court settlement in the legal dispute over the musician’s funeral arrangements and marital status.

In an interview on United Showbiz on October 11, 2025, Amankwah said he believes the matter can be resolved without court intervention.

According to him, Akosua Serwaa, Odo Broni, and Abusua Panyin Kofi Owusu should prioritise dialogue in the interest of peace and respect for the late musician’s legacy.

Amankwah noted that prolonging the legal battle would only damage the image of Daddy Lumba, one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians.

He therefore called on both legal teams to guide their clients toward a peaceful resolution.

“I’ll appeal for us to agree and settle this matter out of court. I don’t believe there’s anything we can’t resolve among ourselves, and that’s what I want to plead with Lawyer Kusi and his client to consider. I also urge the legal representatives of Kofi Owusu Fosu and Odo Broni to advise their clients to understand that what’s happening is damaging the image and legacy of Daddy Lumba,” Amankwah stated.

The appeal comes amid a legal dispute initiated by Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, the first wife of the late musician. She has filed a lawsuit at the Kumasi High Court seeking to be officially recognised as the only surviving spouse of Daddy Lumba.

Court documents filed by her lawyer, William Kusi of Dominion Chambers in Kumasi, show that Akosua Serwaa is also requesting the court to restrain Priscilla Ofori, widely known as Odo Broni, and two others, Abusua Panin Kofi Owusu and Transitions Funeral Home, from taking custody of Daddy Lumba’s body or performing any funeral rites.

In the court filings, Akosua Serwaa claims that she married Daddy Lumba on December 23, 2004, under German law.

She argues that the marriage was monogamous and remained valid until his death on July 26, 2025. Based on this, she contends that any other claim of marriage involving the late musician is “legally impossible.”

Through the lawsuit, Akosua Serwaa is seeking a declaration from the High Court confirming her status as the sole surviving spouse of the late musician and granting her the exclusive right to perform his widowhood and funeral rites.

She also wants the court to restrain the Fosu family’s head, Abusua Panin Kofi Owusu, from recognising Odo Broni as Lumba’s wife, and to prevent Odo Broni from presenting herself as such.
