Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bryan Acheampong, has made a passionate appeal to his supporters and party faithful to remain disciplined and united as the NPP navigates its internal leadership contest ahead of the 2028 elections.

In a statement released on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Dr Acheampong stressed that the strength of the NPP has always been rooted in dignity, discipline, and unity, not in division or personal attacks.

“Yes, I have come under a barrage of attacks. Falsehoods have been spread about me. Fake materials have been shared to question my character. But through it all, I remain focused, not on retaliation, but on restoration,” he stated.

According to him, the internal contest is not just about personalities but about ideas, vision, and leadership capable of positioning the NPP for a return to power in 2028.

He cautioned that any resort to insults, propaganda, or divisive rhetoric would only weaken the party and embolden its political opponents.

“This is a contest of ideas, of leadership, and of vision of power in focus. And it must be treated with the respect it deserves,” he stressed.

Dr Acheampong, who served as a cabinet minister under President Akufo-Addo, admonished his supporters to resist the temptation of replicating what he described as “dirty tactics”. Instead, he urged them to conduct themselves with dignity and fairness, focusing on constructive dialogue that reflects the values of the party.

“I respectfully call on all who support me to refrain from intemperate language, personal attacks, and the circulation of false materials. Let us not mirror the tactics we seek to rise above,” he cautioned.

He insisted that the NPP must project itself as a party of ideas, one capable of offering credible leadership solutions to Ghana’s pressing challenges.

“We are building something far greater than a campaign. We are building a movement to unite and rebuild our beloved New Patriotic Party,” he said.

This latest appeal for civility comes on the back of comments Dr Bryan Acheampong made over the weekend, which have generated debate within the NPP.

He clarified, however, that his comment was taken out of context and was not meant to wade into tribal affiliation.

According to him, the defeat was more a matter of timing and political circumstances than tribal affiliation.
