Jordan Ayew is the captain of the Black Stars

Leicester City manager, Martí Cifuentes has expressed his frustrations over Jordan Ayew’s inability to convert a key chance during their draw against Portsmouth in the English Championship.

The Foxes started the game strongly, piling pressure on their opponents, which led to the opening goal in the 26th minute by Aaron Ramsey, assisted by Ghanaian winger Fatawu Issahaku.

In the second half, the visiting side raised their intensity and equalised in the 58th minute through a strike from John Swift.

Ayew, introduced as a substitute, missed a golden opportunity to restore Leicester’s lead.

The match ended in a 1-1 stalemate, leaving the manager, players, and fans disappointed with the team’s performance at the King Power Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the club’s upcoming game against Hull City, Cifuentes criticised Ayew’s missed chance, which could have secured all three points.

“In the last 15–20 minutes, we were gaining a bit more control. We had Jordan [Ayew’s] chance and Luke [Thomas’] chance to win the game, but the second half was not at the level we wanted. I’m very self-critical, and we should have done much better,” he fumed.

The Black Stars captain has scored one goal in nine appearances for Leicester City in the 2025/2026 Championship season.

Ayew is expected to be a key player for the Foxes as they push for promotion back to the Premier League.
