Uganda’s U17 national team received a rousing welcome upon their return home after securing qualification to the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar later this year under the guidance of former Ghana international Laryea Kingston.

The Uganda Cubs booked their place at the global tournament after defeating Ghana’s Black Starlets on penalties in the playoff round of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations. The victory marked Uganda’s return to the world stage at youth level and sparked celebrations across the country.

Kingston, together with his technical staff and players, arrived at Entebbe International Airport to scenes of jubilation as hundreds of fans gathered to celebrate the achievement. The team was welcomed by several high-ranking football officials, including Uganda Football Association President Justus Mugisha, Executive Committee member Ronnie Kalema, Uganda Youth Football Association Chairman Robert Kiwanuka and Fred Katende Malibu from the office of the FUFA President.

Preparations are already underway for Uganda’s participation in the World Cup, with Kingston expected to remain in charge of the team for the tournament in Qatar.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Black Starlets are expected back home in the coming days as plans begin for next year’s WAFU Zone B qualifiers.
