Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has opened up on the disappointment of being left out of Ghana’s squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, describing the decision as shocking and unfair.

Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, the former Black Stars midfielder recalled the emotional moment he was informed that he would not be part of the team for the tournament in South Africa.

According to Kingston, the decision came as a huge surprise not only to him but also to several of his teammates at the time. He revealed that some of his former colleagues still discuss the incident years later.

“For me, the entire situation in 2010 came as a massive shock. It shocked not only me but most of my teammates as well,” he said.

Kingston explained that he was called into a conference room where members of the Black Stars technical team and officials of the Ghana Football Association were gathered. Among those present, he said, were former GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi and sports administrator Randy Abbey.

The former midfielder admitted he was devastated after receiving the news, insisting he has always believed the decision to exclude him from the squad was unfair.
